THE WORLD WE WANT: This is What Sustainability Looks Like

CLIMATE CHANGE AND COMMUNITY SOLUTIONS FORUM

Leading groups from the Kootenays are hosting a significant event called "The World We Want: This is What Sustainability Looks Like" and invite people of all ages to the Brilliant Cultural Centre in Castlegar, on Saturday November 8th 10:30 am to 6:45 pm.

This event is intended to provide valuable opportunities to learn about climate changes and to explore alternative steps towards a healthier future.

The World We Want includes key note speakers, 8 participatory workshops, the highly acclaimed film, “Cowspiracy”, multimedia presentations, displays, uplifting songs by a massive choir and a vegetarian potluck dinner. Portions of this forum will be professionally videotaped & mounted on YouTube.

Keynote speaker, Dr. Richard Hebda, University of Victoria (Biology, Earth and Ocean Sciences), will speak about local and global climatic changes and impacts to our environment, economy and lifestyles and Herb Hammond will introduce "Ecosystem-based Conservation Planning: An Important Response to Climate Change”.

Workshops will feature:

  • Rebuilding Local Self-sufficient /Resilient Food Systems

  • Passive House Designs and Sustainable Cohousing Developments

  • Community Based Forestry Practices and Watershed Conservation

  • Climate Change and Jobs and Economy

  • Energy-Solar /Wind/Ground Source/Micro Hydro

  • Sustainable Transportation

  • Influencing Policy and Organizing for Environmental Change

  • Water Conservation Projects

The outstanding Kootenay Premiere Film “Cowspiracy” will also be shown following workshops.

The Doukhobors and Friends choir warmly invites choirs and people of all ages and cultures who are interested from the Kootenay Boundary regions to join the choir, especially youth, who will play an exciting role in opening the event.

Practices begin at 2:00 pm at the Brilliant Cultural Center October 19th and 26th and at 12:00 pm November 2nd.
